I anticipate finishing high school sometime next year, after which I plan to start college. What shall I emphasize learning in college? Things fit to shape me into being a more profitable servant of Jesus Christ. Here are a few things I'm considering:
Philosophy - I wish to understand alternative worldviews, so that I may recognize them when I see them. Hopefully, such stuff will clear my head and force me to think.
Latin - I don't think enough people read Latin. Latin is a language closer to my own than many others and I hope to learn more about my own therefrom. Plus, much theology is still in Latin.
Greek - I'm actually less enthusiastic about this at the moment, but trust that such feelings shall pass. Of course, I need to know this language, since the New Testament was inspired in it. Jonathan Edwards accounted his proficiency therein very mean since he had studied none of the classics; therefore, I hope to look into studying those same classical Greek authors to strengthen my grasp of the language, culture, and history.
Those are my planned areas of emphasis. The University of Memphis no longer offers a major in classics; at best, they'll offer me a concentration, which I'm going to consider. At the moment, I'm considering a major in philosophy and a minor in Latin & Greek. I'm also interested in German and Dutch, but it seems a bit much to attempt four languages in four years. Please pray that I will be disciplined and strict this next year; I'm going to have to apply myself.
Cheers,
Tyler <><
I'm interested in theology, philosophy, history, life, and wives. If you remain here long enough, you'll probably hear something about each of these things.

About Me

- polemic turtle
- turtle believes his Bible, loves His God, and is being divinely conformed unto the image of God's Son, though if one were to think in terms of Romans 9, turtle would confess that he is a very stubborn and brittle piece of clay. thankfully, the Potter works omnipotently for turtle's good and shows him mercy and grace every day.

I also like to study languages a lot and am thinking of maybe majoring in European languages such as the Romance languages, German, Russian, Latin, and maybe Greek.... (Of course, I don't know if I would study ALL those languages, but that's just some of what I'm thinking about....)
It is rather sad that the University of Memphis doesn't have majors in Classics anymore... *sigh*
Did you ever wonder why God used the Greek language to communicate His Word? Quite simply, it was because that was the language spoken by the people God used to bring His Word to the written page. God has always chosen to speak the language of the people He wanted to reach.
Blessings to you in your continued search for truth!
